The Life Insurance Corporation of India, on sympathetic grounds, disbursed around ₹3.35 lakh in insurance claims to the wife of a TNSTC bus conductor who was killed in an accident, along with eight others, along the Ooty-Coonoor Road near Manthada, a few days ago.
The bus conductor, Prakash, 38, from Kurthukuli near Udhagamandalam, died on Friday morning from his injuries despite receiving treatment in Coimbatore. An official from the LIC, Ooty Branch, said that usually, the insurance claims take a few days to process.
“However, due to the nature of the tragedy, we immediately managed to procure a list of the people killed, as well as their addresses. We then contacted our insurance agents and tried to find out how many of the deceased had taken LIC policies,” said the official.
The officials then learned that Prakash was one of the persons, who had taken insurance policy and went to his house on Friday. They did not insist on the need for the paperwork to be produced to prove Prakash’s death.
